Guerloc - Rewrite

Daniel and Jeffry just went home. I had invited them over to my place to discuss the script for Guerloc. I had hoped that their comments would be trivial, that I could do a quick rewrite and start shooting the picture.

Alas, they had good and bad news for me. The good news is that the basic premise is good. The central story arc is fine. The bad news is that my story lacks substance. There is promise but i fail to deliver. They also had a hard time figuring out what my setting was: is it a sci-fi movie, a sci-fi western?

So I am back behind the keyboard. First I'll have to review all their small remarks in the script and then start adding or improving the material. It seems that the Guerloc blog will remain empty for a while (I refuse to post anything before I start shooting). But I owe it to myself to make sure that this machinima movie is the best movie ever made.

PS I just posted the last two episodes of Anzac on machinima.com, check this blog and that site for part 3 of Anzac, which will be posted soon.

Finally back on SimHQ

After a few weeks of inactivity, I am finally back posting on SimHQ. At this moment I am not quite convinced of their new homepage.

On the old one any new AAR was usually mentionned within a day or two after posting, which resulted usually in a boost of views. My original posting rate and time was so scheduled that my AAR's always were announced just before the weekend (and remainded visible for two days). But lately I haven't seen any announcement for the new AAR's, which might explain why AAR's get so few views.

Anyhow I'll grant the SimHQ staff the benefit of doubt.

The latest AAR I posted is Letter From Malta (part 3). I don't know how many more letters I'll write, perhaps 2 or 3, before this series will be depleted. I have no idea what I'll post next. Perhaps some Falcon Allied Force AAR's or Wings over Europe AAR's. I have some material but haven't decided yet what to post.

The script for my next machinima movie takes also valuable time away from simming. If all goes well I should finish the second draft this week. Next week I'll spend on rewriting the dialogue and description, before handing the script to some close friends for a read.

Meanwhile they will have to do with my latest AAR.

Happy Reading

Scriptwriting

Last couple of weeks I have not had much time to fly any flightsim, let alone write some AAR's.

I am too busy writing the screenplay for my next machinima movie. I use Lew Hunter's Screenwriting 434 book as a guideline. Each evening I try to write 5 pages. It takes me easily one to two hours to fill the pages so once I'am done writing I usually have no more time to fly. (Although I need to confess that I have been playing a lot of Half-Life 2)

If all goes well I should write the final pages of the screenplay tomorrow, bringing my screenplay to 60 pages. This is a bit short (average movies take 100 to 110 pages) but I discovered that my first draft tends to be short because I see everything in my head and write down the short version on paper.

Once the first draft is done, I'll put it away for a week. After that time I can start the first (of probably many) rewrite to tie up the loose ends and expand the script. Perhaps in that week of rest I can write some AAR's in advance.

Last weeks FACT's was a great success, many thanks to razorreel for hosting my movie during the convention. They have asked me to make an introduction movie for their site and for their film festival. When will I do that?

Anyhow here are some pictures from the convention.

Me with some dude from some sci-fi movie (something with stars...)

With some ladies for whom its clearly that time of the month again.

With the entire RazorReel crew, thanks guys for hosting my movie!
